Voyage
A film for Conde Nast Traveller
When travel meets craft, light takes journey.
The first soft light of dawn
Heralds the spark of an idea
As big and bright as the world.
On this distant summit
A rhythm of patient footprints.
Every second counts towards a lifetime’s study.
A blank sphere pendant
To be garbed by tectonic plates
Longitude and latitude.
Pathways of ink and paper
Water unfolds across the whole
With finite precision.
To weave horizons and knit continents
As if by accident, exactly formed.
Suspended in wonder
Kin to the passage of time
A master on its axis turns.
Picked out in perfect order
Flowing air and ocean vastness
A thousand cities carefully rendered.
Mountain stillness and river threads
Celestial patterns writ large in stars.
This is a new perspective on the skin of our earth
Preserved in balance to spin eternal
Caught to consider its fragile surface.
We become passengers and stewards
Witnesses to passing light
That in time gives way to shadow.
But never turns its face from day to night.
